Description: | The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ (NCTM) Teacher Professional Development Grants are provided to improve the competence of in the teaching of mathematics of one or more classroom teachers in grades 6 through 8. While this grant does not fund the purchase of technology, proposals including professional development involving the use of technology to enhance student learning are encouraged. Any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan, but not be the primary focus of the grant. Eligible applicants are one or more current mathematics teachers per school who spend at least half of the school day teaching mathematics in grades 6 through 8, have three or more years of teaching experience in grades 6 through 8, and are a full individual or e-member of NCTM, or teach in a school with an NCTM prekindergarten through grade 8 school membership. Past recipients of this grant are not eligible to reapply. Applicants must provide five copies (one original and four copies) of the complete application in a single packet to mail to the contact address by the deadline. Faxed applications are not accepted. |

Description: | The Foundation for Rural Service provides a variety of programs ranging from youth-based initiatives and educational materials to consumer awareness and rural economic development. The foundation aims to improve educational achievement in rural communities across the country with projects that will have a long-lasting effect on the community. Grants are concentrated in four major areas: business and economic development, community development, education, and telecommunications. Educational grants support technology in the classroom (such as computers and smart boards), curriculum development, extracurricular activities, and distance learning programs. The foundation recently supported funding for Chromebooks for elementary school students, virtual reality equipment for high school students, and classroom computers for underserved students. Priority is given to projects that will be fully funded by the grant maximum, or those that have 75 percent of the project costs funded. Eligible applicants are nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and schools. Applications must be submitted online. |

ADVOCACY: NC CAP CALL FOR ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERSHIP The North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs (NC CAP) is a statewide Network dedicated to increasing access to high-quality afterschool and expanded learning programs for all children and youth in North Carolina, helping them to succeed in and out of school. Our work includes research and best practices in the afterschool and expanded learning environment; convening key stakeholders (statewide and regional); advocating for policies to support afterschool and expanded learning; and professional development and technical support for afterschool programs. NC CAP is currently seeking dynamic and dedicated individuals to join our advisory board. If selected, advisory board members will serve a 2-year term with a mid-term review. If you are one or more of the following, we are interested in you: -Leaders within out-of-school time programs or partnering agencies focused on our priority areas – youth development, STEM, literacy, nutrition & physical activity, equity & access – interested in implementing impactful statewide programs and initiatives. – Energetic and entrepreneurial business people, who are not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm for changing the world to work for our state’s children. -Community leaders and philanthropists willing to engage their peers to ensure access to high-quality programs for all youth. -Astute governmental or state agency advocates who can assist in navigating the political landscape of policy development, funding and legislation. -Scholars/academics who want to put their expertise in youth development, STEM, literacy, nutrition & physical activity, equity & access, to work for youth statewide. If you hold yourself to high expectations, then you’ll find service on our advisory board very rewarding. We are looking for passionate individuals who will: -Attend four (4) quarterly (in-person or virtual) advisory board meetings –annually Actively engage in NC CAP events and communications -Support planning of events including the annual Synergy Conference -Advocate for the Network’s mission and vision locally and statewide Interested candidates can complete the application form here.
