*Magic of Electricity – Hands-on activities using student kits allow 4th graders

to explore magnetism, circuits, conductors and the flow of electricity as they use science

processing skills.

* I am an EcoSystem – Students examine some myths and facts surrounding microbes.

Examine where microbes grow and under what conditions. Investigate where the role microbes play in a healthy eco-system and our bodies. Apply new knowledge by designing technologies to keep people safe from dangerous food borne microbes in our world. 5th Grade.

*Vermicomposting – Aligns with 5th grade Essential Standard –Eco-systems. Explore the life of an earthworm through a micro-community that contains producers, consumers, and decompomposters. The 4-H Agent can help you create a vermicompost bin to use in your classroom for the year!

Other 4-H Options to Consider….

School-Based Clubs – Let students at your school develop the leadership and life skills offered through the 4-H club program by offering a 4-H club at your school. Extension staff supports clubs with leadership provided by parent and teacher volunteers. Organize a club to address a special topic or general interest club. Lots of options to fit the needs of your families!

Short Term Programs – Need some special interest programs to address particular needs at your school?  Give us a call, we may be able to help.  Other special programs could include leadership, engineering/critical thinking, service learning,  public speaking/communications, gardening, etc.

What is 4-H?? 4-H is the youth development program offered through NC Cooperative Extension, which is part of NC State University. In addition to 4-H school enrichment programs, 4-H offers a variety of programs designed to help youth develop leadership and life skills while exploring areas of interests.

Survey request to create evaluation tools for Modeling:

My name is Grace Carroll, and I am a doctoral student at NC State University in the Learning and Teaching in STEM program. My research interests have to do with scientific modeling and the support teachers need to engage their students in this practice. I am currently in the process of developing a survey instrument that I hope will help me to better conceptualize the ways that teachers understand scientific models and modeling. However, I need your help to be able to refine this instrument and verify that it is measuring what I purport that it does. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous. The link to the survey is designed to protect your anonymity (i.e., no IP addresses will be collected, and no personally identifiable information will be asked). You can stop this survey at any time by closing out of your browser window. You must be a grades 6-12 science educator to take this survey. If you are interested in participating in this survey, click the link below and review the informed consent information on the second page prior to beginning the survey. Please feel free to reach out to me via email ([email protected]) if you have any questions before you participate. The survey will remain open until Nov. 18, 2021. Thank you for your time. I appreciate all you do to support science learning for your students!
