NC Congressman Patrick McHenry graciously donated a laptop and desktop to STEM West. Specifically, the devices will be used by STEM West’s new AmeriCorps Communications VISTA Madi NeeSmith. An AmeriCorps VISTA is someone who serves full-time for a year at non-profit organizations and public agencies to help them build capacity, effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage local volunteer service, and empower not only individuals but also communities. Here at STEM West, Madi uses these devices to help support and expand STEM West’s advocacy of the alignment between educational and occupational objectives by partnering with the regional workforce and community. The devices assist in obtaining research regarding STEM education, career pathways, higher education, and gaps in the industrial workforce in our western rural communities. Furthermore, the devices assist in grant writing, marketing, and networking. STEM West is very appreciative of the continuous support and gracious donation from Congressman McHenry.

Continual gratitude is also expressed to Burroughs Wellcome Fund for providing the funding for the AmeriCorp VISTA position for the 2020-2021 year!
